Region of Peel – In recognition of National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, Peel Regional Police (PRP) is highlighting its critical efforts and partnerships in combating this serious crime, including the rescue of 30 victims and the arrest of 38 traffickers in 2024.

Human trafficking, which exploits vulnerable individuals for labour and sexual purposes, affects countless lives in Peel Region and across the world. To fight back against  this crime, PRP have made substantial progress in addressing this issue through collaborative efforts and dedicated investigations.

"Human trafficking devastates lives across our communities. As leaders in fighting human trafficking, we are unwavering in our commitment to eradicating it, and bringing perpetrators to justice while supporting survivors," said Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich.

Beyond preventing crime, the Vice and Human Trafficking Unit offers comprehensive training to diverse community groups across Brampton and Mississauga, including vulnerable international students, to spread awareness of the dangers and signs.

Victims are supported by PRP through collaboration with social service partners that embed victim service counsellors directly into the VICE unit so that officers can lean on trained professionals to provide immediate, expert support to address the complex needs of human trafficking survivors.

Anyone who suspects any activity of human trafficking should report it immediately to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-833-900-1010.  Information may also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.
