Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Seizure

Region of Peel - Officers from the Strategic Tactical Enforcement Policing (STEP) team located a loaded firearm and laid numerous firearm-related charges after conducting a traffic stop in Brampton.

On May 3, 2024, Officers from the STEP team conducted a traffic stop in the area of Kennedy Road and Clarence Street in the city of Brampton. An investigation into the vehicle and the driver resulted in police locating a loaded Taurus G2 9mm firearm. The driver was arrested and charged with several firearms offences.

Dy’Quan YOUNG, a 21-year-old man from Burlington, is charged with the following offences:

  • CC 92(2) Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized
  • CC 92(1) Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • CC 94(1) Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
  • CC 95(1) Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • CC 117.01(1) Possession of Firearm, etc. Contrary to Order
  • CC 108(1)(A) Tampering with serial number of firearm
  • LLCA 42(1)(A) Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • CDSA 5(2) Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl
  • CDSA 5(2) Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine
  • HTA 78.1(1) Drive – hand held communication device
  • CCA 12(1) Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

Dy’Quan was held for bail hearings and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
