Search Warrants Executed in an Attempt Murder Investigation

Region of Peel - Investigators from the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested a man and seized a firearm in connection to an attempted murder investigation.

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 11:15pm the victims, a 47-year-old man and 22-year-old woman from Mississauga were present in a vehicle when they were shot at several times by the occupant of a passing vehicle. The victims did not suffer any physical injuries and the suspect vehicle fled the scene.

As a result of this incident, officers from the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau launched Project Eugene to identify and locate the suspect(s) involved in the shooting.

On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, Peel Regional Police executed search warrants at four residences in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) resulting in an arrest and the seizure of a firearm and drugs.  At the time of the arrest, the accused had a firearms prohibition order due to previous criminal convictions.

Shawn Dennis, a 39-year-old man from Toronto, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Attempt Murder using a Firearm (X2)
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (X2)
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm (X2)
  • Possession of a Firearm (X2)
  • Carry Concealed Firearm (X2)
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was a firearm (X2)
  • Possess Firearm with Altered Serial Number
  • Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

He was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
