Peel Regional Police Provides Update on Organized Auto Theft
Please see video of Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich providing an update on organized auto theft in the Region of Peel.
Region of Peel — Peel Regional Police has recovered almost half of the vehicles stolen in the region since the beginning of the 2025, with a total value of $26 million.
In addition, 479 auto theft-related charges have been laid against 257 individuals.
In 2022, rates of organized auto theft began to increase in the region, a trend that is not unique to Peel and has been seen across the country.
In response, Peel Regional Police and the Peel Police Service Board were among the first to react by holding the first ever auto theft summit at the start of 2023 — a platform that brought together law enforcement, government officials and industry partners to develop and implement recommendations to help combat organized auto theft and raise awareness. Peel Regional Police also made significant investments in its Commercial Auto Crime Bureau, doubling in size and becoming one of the largest in the country.
The efforts have helped tackle the issue with results as follows:
- More than $380 million in recoveries since January 2023 which equates to over 7400 vehicles recovered
- More than 1100 auto theft-related charges laid against 543 individuals since January 2023
- 16 per cent decrease in auto thefts in 2024 compared to 2023
- 45 per cent reduction in auto thefts compared to the same period last year, a $60 million reduction
This achievement is a direct result of the unwavering dedication and professionalism of members, complemented by the continued support and advocacy of the Peel Police Service Board. Their commitment has been instrumental in enabling, resourcing and sustaining these important efforts.
The successful conclusion of these complex national and international investigations was also made possible through funding provided by the Ministry of the Solicitor General. Peel Regional Police is especially grateful for the support of the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario, whose contribution was integral to the success of joint forces operation with law enforcement partners.

QUOTE
“We have made significant steps in addressing the ongoing threat of organized auto theft in our communities, including the expansion of our Commercial Auto Crime Bureau, one of the largest of its kind in Canada. These combined efforts have led to more arrests, charges, and recoveries than ever before. While there is still more work to be done, we remain committed the fight against auto theft.”
