PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS

The following expectations are taken from the Ontario Curriculum: Health and Physical Education Grades 9 and 10 and Technological Education Grades 9 and 10.

  1. identify strategies to minimize potentially dangerous situations (e.g. violence prevention, injury prevention);
  2. indentify the factors that contribute to positive relationships with others;
  3. explain the consequences of sexual decisions on the individual, family and community;
  4. demonstrate safe practices regarding the safety of themselves and others;
  5. demonstrate effective personal strategies to minimize injury in adolescence;
  6. describe specific types of physical and non-physical abuse (e.g., manipulation, intimidation, sexual harassment, verbal abuse);
  7. describe solutions and strategies to address violence in the lives of young people;
  8. explain how the school, the local community, and other community agencies are involved in developing strategies (e.g., a school's code of conduct) to prevent or end the violence in young people's lives;
  9. describe environmental influences on sexuality (e.g., cultural, social, and media influences);
  10. demonstrate understanding of how to use decision-making skills effectively to support choices related to responsible sexuality;
  11. explain their reasoning for their personal choices and actions related to health and well-being;
  12. use appropriate strategies to prevent potential health and safety problems;
  13. apply acceptable-use guidelines/policies for software, equipment, and materials;
  14. observe safety rules and regulations;
  15. explain the benefits, risks, and ethics associated with communications technology;
  16. demonstrate knowledge of ethical standards and policies for communications technology.
