UNIT EXPECTATIONS

The following expectations are taken directly from the Ontario Curriculum Health and Physical Education.

  1. identify the responsibilities associated with caring for themselves and others (e.g., while babysitting);

  2. describe and respond appropriately to potentially violent situations relevant to themselves (e.g., threats, harassment, violence in the media);

  3. describe age-appropriate matters related to sexuality (e.g., the need to develop good interpersonal skills);

  4. describe harassment and identify ways of dealing with it (e.g., by communicating feelings and reporting incidents of harassment);

  5. identify people and resources that can support someone experiencing harassment;

  6. apply living skills (e.g., decision-making, assertiveness, and refusal skills) in making informed decisions, and analyze the consequences of engaging in sexual activities and using drugs;

  7. analyze situations (e.g., hitchhiking, gang violence, violence in relationships) that are potentially dangerous to personal safety;

  8. identify support services (e.g., the school guidance department, shelters, Kids' Help Phone) that assist victims of violence, and explain how to access them.
