Research current media coverage on Internet Safety issues. Use the following template as a guide for discussion. (Teacher may want to locate news articles or other media pieces prior to using this activity with class). Forward to Police officer prior to their visit

Part A
The details in a news item can usually be analyzed by asking the questions "WHO?", "WHAT?", "WHEN?", "WHERE?", "WHY?", and "HOW?". Answer the questions below for each.

WHY did the event(s) occur?
        Could this situation have been avoided? Why or why not?

HOW can you keep yourself and others safe?
        How can we ensure that this situation does not occur in the future?
        Which additional rules could be established to make using the Internet safer?

HOW will this news impact you and/or society?
(e.g. with respect to safety, privacy, liberty, etc.)


Part B
Select from the following:

1. Re-write an article in a summary format or
2. Write a mock e-journal or blog, discussing how the Internet is affecting our lives socially, politically, economically, and/or legally?
