Task 2 : Caught in the Web Pre-viewing Activities

Introductory Question:

  1. "What are some of the words that you think of when you hear the word 'Internet'?"

  2. Record responses using a graphic organizer. (e.g. mind map, word wall).

  3. Introduce words that may not have been offered by students in class discussion:
    • cache, chat, cookie, download, email, netiquette, search engine, ID theft, IM, Blog, Web cams, P2P, IP address, VC, Firewall, personal information, virus; and, Reference Glossary of Terms

Supplementary Question

  1. "In the past month, what are some of the things that you have done on the Internet?"

  2. Use student responses as a springboard for discussion of various aspects of Internet use:
    • chat rooms and messaging software (e.g. MSN);
    • email;
    • MySpace, Facebook, Flicker;
    • games;
    • determine validity

Suggested Activity

  1. Create an Internet Safety poster for people your age.

  2. Create a brochure for your classmates on Internet Safety.
