Regional Traffic Unit

The PEEL REGIONAL POLICE Regional Traffic Unit was formed on January 8, 2001 and is comprised of approximately twenty four officers. Along with our partners in road safety we work to combine engineering, enforcement, and education in order to reduce the human and financial cost of motor vehicle collisions. Making the roadways of Peel Region safe for the public is our primary goal.

With the assistance of an analyst we review collision locations along with their frequency and seriousness. Once problem roadways are identified enforcement action may be taken in order to address the factors contributing to the collisions.

The Regional Traffic Unit uses Harley Davidson Police Motorcycles and low profile police cruisers while on patrol in order to conduct enforcement activities. Equipment used by the officers include:

  • A variety of stationary, hand held, and mobile Radar / Laser speed measuring devices
  • Radar Detector devices
  • Low profile police cruisers
  • Police motorcycles

TOOLS OF THE TRADE:

The Regional Traffic Unit, is also actively involved in Project E.R.A.S.E. (eliminate racing activity on streets everywhere). During specific E.R.A.S.E. events the Regional Traffic Unit will teams up with other greater Toronto area police services in an effort to combat this dangerous activity on our roadways.
