Technological Crimes Unit

The Technological Crimes Unit’s main objective is the seizure, collection, examination and preservation of electronic evidence.

The Technological Crimes Unit provides technical assistance to aid police officers in investigations that involve computers, or similar electronic devices, that may contain evidence in the form of electronic data; and support investigations by conducting comprehensive forensic examinations of devices capable of storing electronic data that may be of evidentiary value.

The Technological Crimes Unit assists not only the policing community, but also the community at large by providing training and/or awareness sessions in the areas of Computer/Internet Safety. The unit is well represented at all police related shows.

Earlier this year the Technological Crimes Unit participated, for the first time, in the Police Show aired on Rogers Television. It is expected there will be more segments to come.

This unit, in partnership with the Banking Sector, is implementing a Card Skimmer Laboratory to assist compromised bank customers identification and to provide assistance swiftly.
