Commercial Auto Crime Bureau

Goals and Objectives

  • To enhance the professional development of staff in response to changing community needs.
  • To provide opportunities for officer and support staff training in order that investigators may identify, and interrupt, current vehicle theft trends.

Role and Function

The Commercial Auto Crime Bureau investigates organized crime rings involved in the theft, dismantling, rebuilding and eventual resale or exporting of stolen motor vehicles. The bureau is also responsible for investigating the thefts of tractor trailers and their loads, as well as any heavy construction equipment stolen within the Region of Peel.

The Commercial Auto Crime Bureau is also responsible for training officers to become experts in the field of vehicle identification. These investigators are trained to ferret out the original vehicle identifiers from those vehicles which have suspected cloned, or reclaimed, vehicle identification numbers.
