SUSPECT WANTED FOR ATTEMPTING TO RUN OVER AN OFFICER

Investigators from the Peel Regional Police 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are seeking assistance in locating a suspect who attempted to run over a uniform patrol officer, and an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers can help find this person.

On Sunday, July 29, 2007, at approximately 1:15 p.m., a plain clothes officer observed a suspicious four door Black Yukon Denali in the area of Mavis Road and Highway 403. The officer followed the vehicle until it made its way onto the westbound Q.E.W. Uniform officers were called to assist and were able to perform a tandem stop in order to prevent the vehicle from fleeing. The vehicle was stopped and surrounded on the shoulder of the Q.E.W. Westbound just east of Trafalgar Road in Oakville. Officers exited their vehicles and approached the Denali. At that time, the driver purposely swerved the motor vehicle and accelerated at a high rate of speed towards the officer in an attempt to strike him. The officer, fearing for his life, fired shots at the approaching motor vehicle. The suspect then escaped and was last seen going westbound on the QEW.

The Denali was later located abandoned in the area of Dundas Street and Trafalgar Road in the City of Oakville. It is believed that the suspect stole a Black GMC Sierra pick up truck from this location. The pick up truck was found abandoned approximately 30 minutes later on Porter Street, in the City of Burlington. It is alleged that the suspect then stole a third vehicle, a 2003 Burgundy Cadillac Escalade with Ontario License plate *AKRZ 595*. The vehicle and the suspect are still outstanding.

The officer did not sustain any injury as a result of the incident.

The suspect is described as male, light skinned with dark hair and wearing sunglasses.
