Airport Division

General

What began as the Malton Airport in 1939 on 420 hectares of land, has grown to 1,792 hectares and is now the Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada’s largest, and busiest, airport.

In July of 1997, Peel Regional Police (PRP) became the police service of jurisdiction and provide full police response and enforcement at Toronto Pearson Airport.  The Airport Division consists of uniform, tactical, and plain clothes officers.  They provide policing services to protect life and property and to prevent or investigate criminal acts and is an integral part of the airport security network.

PRP liaise with the RCMP to coordinate law enforcement efforts when responding to a threat or a possible threat to the security of Canada, civil aviation and internationally protected persons.

PRP, in consultation with the G.T.A.A., Transport Canada, the R.C.M.P. and other law enforcement agencies, continually monitor threat assessments and available intelligence information and as a result may from time to time deploy personnel to counter known threats.

If necessary, police resources may be deployed to prevent crime, keep the peace and protect the public during events attracting large crowds and media attention; such as: the travel of celebrities and professional sporting teams, visits by internationally protected persons, public rallies and labour disputes.
